This is our shared "community" house, with up to 5 people in this 4 bedroom classic plantation house. It receives the first light in the cool mornings as the ocean winds gently enter. Ang tuluyan
The Pu'uhonua House is a classic 2 story, 5 bedroom plantation house that once housed a family of 9. The house is surrounded by a breadfruit, mango and coconut trees, bamboo and "olena"--Hawaiin tumeric. Guests & residents share the bathrooms, and the full kitchen. There is a comfortable living room with a diverse library and an old Japanese family "butsudan" (ancestral altar.) Pu'uhonua means "sanctuary," and this warm, grandma's-style-older home is a "sanctuary," a reminder of the spirit and architecture of "Old Hawaii,"when sugar was king, communities lived closer together and everyone shared what they had.

Saan ka pupunta

Hakalau, Hawaii, Estados Unidos

Wailea is a quaint old plantation village of about 12 households. It is a very friendly and warm community where we know each other. Our families know each other. Every Tuesday, we have our community market, Hakalau Market FoodSHARE 3-5 pm. The community gathers to share, sell, and trade food; GREAT food for our bodies, souls, and our precious community.

ALOHA & WELCOME, Thank you very much for viewing our various accommodations. Our accommodations are located along the lush and tropical Hamakua Coast, 15 miles north of Hilo. I am Akiko Masuda, a 3rd generation Japanese woman, born in Honolulu in the 40’s, long before freeways, shopping malls, email, Blackberrys, and cell phones. I have been a writer of children's books, student of tai chi, hula, and zen meditation, I am a storyteller, hostess, housekeeper, and love caring for our gardens and fruit trees with our weedwhacker and leaf blower. I am the president of the WAILEA VILLAGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMUNITY. I have been living in Wailea Village since' 91, and at that time, was the first person to buy in this quiet, peaceful country village in 35 years. Please come and discover the peace and kindness here.
