Try one of the free walking tours around the city. (I can give you a map!) I specifically recommend visiting Lucerne on a Saturday or Tuesday morning and taking a stroll through the local market along the Reuss river.

Gorgeous town with the view of the Alps and Mount Pilatus. Stroll around old town and explore everything Lucerne has to offer. Take the Gondola up to Mount Pilatus where you enjoy exceptional views of the alps.

A visit to Lucerne Enter "Luzern Bahnhof" (Lucerne trainstation) in the GPS. Below the station, there is a large car park where you can park your car. If you leave the car park in the direction of Lake Lucerne, you will find yourself directly in front of Lake Lucerne. To the right of the station is the KKL concert hall, built by the French architect Jean Nouvel. It is very impressive, inside a Mahagoni wooden egg is the concert hall, which has magnificent acoustics. You can enter the building and take the lift to the top, where you can enjoy the view of Lucerne and its lake. Afterwards, I advise you to walk along the river Reuss to the "Kappelenbrücke" (Kappelen bridge), take it and you are in the heart of Lucerne. Now continue on the other side of the river, along the Reuss. When you arrive at the Balance Hotel, climb the stairs and enter the old town of Lucerne. There are many shops and shopping opportunities, including Viktorinox, Läderach and Bucherer. There are also many restaurants for lunch, especially by the river. I would also recommend visiting the Lion Monument, which is rich in history, and the Glacier Garden Museum. To get there, just follow the signs or ask people.

Lucerne is a fantastic place to visit. The small city offers a very unique blend of countryside and urbanity in a very dense setting (you don't have to go wider distances or need a motor-vehicle from one point-of-interest to another). It has a beautiful old town, lots of POI and offers extensive night-life activities. Distance to your apartement: 30min by car / 40min by bus ("Tellbus") starting from Altdorf, station "Telldenkmal" / 2h45min by boat -> we highly recommend the spectacular public boat trips going directly from Flüelen to Lucerne on "Lake Lucerne"!

City center has a lot of sights. There are mountains nearby where you can hike or take a lift to the tops of. Some of our guests have greatly recommend Pilatus.
