Los Gigantes is named after the giant cliffs that overlook it. Situated on the west coast, it is now a modern town with a beach and marina, from where you can take a boat trip whale and dolphin watching and see the huge cliffs from the sea.
Los Gigantes is a resort town in the Santiago del Teide municipality on the west coast of the Canary Island Tenerife. Its main feature are the giant rock formations, Acantilados de Los Gigantes, that rise from the sea to a height of 500-800 metres after which the town has been named. Los Gigantes means "The Giants
Guess why they are called "Los Gigantes" - you guessed right - they are gigantic! Tenerife is a volcanic island - the western part of the island "fell apart" a couple of years ago (read: many) and these gigantic cliffs were left for us to spectate. Take a boat tour here or go by car/bus!

The Guanches considered these stone walls sacred, which, for them, represented the end of the world. At their feet, the seabed, about 30 meters deep, is home to a great natural wealth that attracts enthusiasts of diving and deep sea fishing. The best way to admire these cliffs is to embark on any of the many boats and catamarans that operate from the port of Los Gigantes to observe the bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales that inhabit these waters or engage in deep sea fishing. It is customary for the boat to anchor a few minutes in the bay of Masca to enjoy a swim and lunch on board.
