You've heard all about this still-active volcano! Come and check it out up close! Very safe, and very interesting!

Volcano National Park is located just outside of the village of Volcano. Just a short 40 minute trip from the Ohi'a Hideaway. Some areas have been closed following the 2018 lava flow largely due to earthquake damage. However, the parks is open and there is tons to explore! Highly recommended in early spring (March and April) when the Ohi'a blossoms are in bloom, absolutely gorgeous!

This park has everything. An active volcano, great hikes, and beautiful vistas and views. Bring good shoes, water, a light jacket (it can get cold and wet). Go for the day, start by visiting the visitors center. Hike Kilauea iki for a good idea of what the calderas look like from the floor. Visit the Thurston Lava tube, and don't miss the Jaggar Museum with views of Hale Ma'uma'u.
