John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first undersea park in the United States. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 14th, 1972.
What is it? A lovely park whose main attraction is a beautiful coral reef teeming with a small city of sea life. Why go? For the reef, silly! See it from a glass bottom boat or—the best way, in our opinion—jump in the water on a snorkel tour and paddle around for an hour. Get up close with barracudas (they won’t bite) and the famous 4,000-pound statue of Jesus, which stands 25 feet underwater.
