A terrific local coffee shop. Little-known to anyone other than locals yet full of great local art and knick knacks as well as good coffee, sandwiches, snacks and ice cream. Come here for a snack or lunch after a hike in Lynn Canyon or Lynn Headwaters Parks.

A large casual restaurant with yummy appies and share plates as well as main course meals. They have a large selection of local craft beers which you can order by the "flight".. your own collection of little beers. You can try up to 5 different beers at a time. Come here for late lunch or early dinner after visiting Lonsdale Quay Market, strolling the Spirit Trail along the North Vancouver waterfront, and even checking out the new art gallery right next to the Tap and Barrel. Free 2hr parking under Lonsdale Quay Market.

Excellent Italian food. This spot is romantic but also good for families.. not necessarily budget friendly. Come here if you're looking for something a little more on the fine dining side, yet quaint and cozy. Right at the bottom of Lonsdale near Lonsdale Quay and the Sea Bus to Vancouver. Make a reservation.

A Vancouver favourite as long as I can remember. Just off the Stanley Park Seawall (a Vancouver must do). Check out Stanley Park, even circumnavigate the park on foot or rent a bicycle. Then hit Cardero's for a delicious dinner with a fabulous view overlooking the harbour, Stanley Park and the North Shore Mountains. Service is excellent.

A terrific spot for Eastern flavour and live entertainment. Be sure to make a reservation if you want seating during dinner and showtime. Great food and prices. Enjoy a meal here after exploring the interesting antique, vintage, local artisan and clothing shops along this trendy section of Main Street. If you park a couple blocks south of the restaurant you can probably find free parking on the street then walk north (back toward the city and mountains) for the best shops.

Excellent unique menu. Gastown is an iconic place to visit and historically the root of Vancouver's beginnings. Just on the other side of the Sea Bus from the North Shore. This restaurant is a terrific stop for lunch or dinner before or after meandering through Gastown's shops and cobbled streets. Make sure to wander down Water Street as far as Alexander and Powell to see a beautiful wedge shaped building on a brick road. This area is often filmed in movies to mimic old New York neighbourhoods.

Sightseeing

Grouse Mountain is well visited and loved by locals and tourists alike. It's just as popular in the summer as the winter. From skiing, skating, snowshoeing and sled rides in the winter to hiking, zip lining, and catching the lumberjack show in the summer, there is always a ton to do. The Gondola ride to the top is a whopping $45 return (adult fare) whereas the ticket down is only $10 but you'll have to hike the Grouse Grind for that deal! This hike is strenuous and should only be attempted if you are in good shape, have proper shoes for hiking and plenty of water. The hike is one way. Reward yourself at the top by sitting out on the Bistro patio and taking in the AMAZING view!

Extremely popular tourist attraction with a super high and long suspension bridge over the Capilano Canyon. The view down is quite something and you may not want to attempt if you're afraid of heights. On the other side of the bridge you'll find a network of connected treetop bridges and platforms. This is a fun place to bring kids. It's busy in the summer. Allow yourselves plenty of time and grab a burger and visit the gift shop.

Stanley Park is Vancouver's crowning glory, a forested oasis surrounded on three sides by the sea. Circumnavigate the park by foot, bicycle or roller blades. The sea wall that circles it is 10 kilometres around. Along the way you'll pass by totem poles, beaches, a water park, a pool and famous Siwash Rock and you'll pass under the Lions Gate Bridge. There are concessions along the way to stop for a sandwich, ice cream, or fish and chips. Ride a horse drawn trolley around the park and make stops like the aquarium or the miniature train ride. A walk or drive around this park will offer you views of the city, the North Shore Mountains and all the way out to Point Grey and UBC.

A huge market full of local delicacies, crafts, shops and art. Purchase every kind of ingredient from fresh local fruits and vegetables to high quality meats and fish. Or find your food already prepared for you in many different forms and from all parts of the world. Visit in the summer to sit outside with your delicious lunch in the sunshine while being entertained by talented buskers as boats pass by with the city all around you. Walk the seawall or take a little boat toward the Science World Globe or across to English Bay Beach. For a full day visit Granville Island in the morning, have lunch then head to South Main Street to wander the shops and enjoy dinner and show at East is East.

Excellent, fairly short local trail to a beautiful lookout point. This is a very popular trail and I'd recommend going on a weekday rather than fighting the crowds on the weekend. You'll also find it much easier to park during the week. After your hike, reward yourself with a Honey's donut in Deep Cove Village. If you want to combine water and land, you can rent paddle boards and kayaks at Deep Cove Kayak Centre before or after your hike. Book ahead for rentals.

One of my all time favourite places in the Vancouver area. This park has a wonderful network of very doable trails. Go during the week and you may find a quiet spot to yourself. The park has many places to walk out on the rocks with views back to Vancouver and west to Bowen Island and Vancouver Island beyond. There is also a beautiful working lighthouse at the bottom of the trails. On the west side of the park you may spot rock climbers scaling the rocks above the ocean. There are a few rocky beach areas where you can spot sea life, like star fish and even take a dip in the ocean.

A lesser known small park with amazing views, rocks to climb and a sweet beach. Divers frequent the area. Jump boulders out to the large rock "island" but be sure to head back before the tide comes in or you may be stranded. This park is close to Horseshoe Bay where the ferries to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island go in and out. There are several casual restaurants and a few shops in Horseshoe Bay.

One of the locations of the 2010 Winter Olympics, it's Vancouver's top ski hill. In warmer weather there are many hiking trails with beautiful views all around. My favourite hike on Cypress is the Eagle Bluffs Hike with a short detour to Cabin Lake. The views from Eagle Bluffs to Vancouver and up Howe Sound are out of this world! This is a moderate half day hike. Hike starts at the base of the ski hill.

Take a day trip 40 minutes up the breathtaking Sea to Sky Highway and you'll reach the outdoor adventure mecca, Squamish. The Gondola is a recent addition in Squamish. Enjoy the ride or hike up.. its a terrific hike (take the gondola back down). The hike takes about 4 hours, mostly uphill but with some nice flat breaks and beautiful views along the way. I prefer this hike over the Grouse Grind. Even though it is a longer hike it is far more enjoyable with much better views on the way up. At the top there are plenty of trails, an incredible suspension bridge, food and decks to take in the awe inspiring views! A visit to town, Shannon Falls and sunset at Porteau Cove will round out your day!
