Table view is a scenic seaside neighborhood with a long stretch of white beach and a relaxed holiday vibe that attracts visitors from across the globe. Its name comes from the amazing view of Table Mountain across the Bay. It is one of the best-known picture-perfect views of Cape Town that features on numerous paintings and postcards. It offers a view of the ocean as far as the eye can see all the way from Robben Island on the one side, Table Mountain, the harbor, and city to the Stellenbosch mountains.
During the day live revolves around the beach. Activities include walking, running, sunbathing, swimming, surfing, and stand-up boarding. During the summer months kite surfers flock to Table View's Kite beach from all over the world to take advantage of the South-Easter. The colorful kite silhouettes that paint the sky over the beach is spectacular to watch especially at sunset while sitting on the balcony sipping on a sundowner or strolling on the beach having ice cream. Each year the Red Bull King of the Air International Kite surfing competition takes place right in front of Portico 804 and you will have an unobstructed view of the competition.
During the whale breading season from September to January the Southern Right and Humpback whales can be spotted in Table Bay and the waters around the western coast.
Nearby neighborhoods include Sunset Beach, Dolphin Beach, Bloubergstrand, Big Bay and Flamingo Vlei. The area has a beautiful coastline with long stretches of white beaches. The area is also renowned for its fynbos and is surrounded by a nature reserve. You can drive along the strip of beach and fynbos that runs from Table View to Melkbos strand. There are parking lots on the way where you can pull off and head onto the beach to take a walk, swim, tan, bodyboard, or fish. These beaches are less crowded than other Cape Town beaches.
The area has a diverse offering of restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, ice cream shops, markets, shopping malls, and Kite Serving rental shops. There is a beach bar just a short distance away from Portico 804 as well as restaurants close to the beach where you can enjoy the beautiful Table Bay view while having a delicious meal.
