Xi beach is definitely one of the most famous beaches in Kefalonia characterized by its white rocky hills that surround the beach and the reddish brown sand. The beach is quite well-organized with straw umbrellas and sunbeds. Right on the beach is a nice bar serving cold drinks and snacks and a water sports center for the most adventurous types. The shallow waters and the gentle waves create the ideal environment for the children. Around the area one will find many taverns, rooms to rent and small shops. The beach is easily accessed by car or public buses from Lixouri and Argostoli.

Lixouri is the second largest village of Kefalonia, located. Today, it counts on 3000 inhabitants most of whom are engaged in agriculture and tourism. The town lies around the blue bay of Argostoli overlooking the capital. Regular ferries connect the two destinations. The beautiful town of Lixouri was built on the site where the ancient city of Pali used to be, one of the four principal cities of Kefalonia during Antiquity. Due to the major earthquake of 1953 the city was destroyed and only a couple of mansions survived and can still be seen today.

Vatsa beach is located 9 km from Lixouri and 5 km from Xi beach. It is a little untouched sandy bay with shallow waters and a small river which merges into the sea and can easily be crossed by a pontoon bridge, a great game for kids! Whilst not unique it has a relaxed atmosphere maintaining its natural beauty. You can combine this visit with a great sunset at Gero Gobos Lighthouse, Xi beach and Kounopetra.

One of the most famous attractions of the Peninsula of Paliki is the Lighthouse of Gerogombos. It is a 13m high tower, standing on the edge of the homonymous bay. It was constructed by the British in 1807 and destroyed by German troops during their withdrawal from the island. It was rebuilt soon after, in 1947. The range of the lighthouse is 20miles. The view from there is magnificent. Not only does the endless Ionian sea and the view from the Peninsula lies before you, but also some of the most beautiful and historic places of the island can be found there. In that Cape, there once was a Temple dedicated to God Poseidon, whose mosaic floors can be found in the archaeological museum in Argostoli. There, it is mentioned by historical sources, that ships with a destination to the great Ports of the Mediterranean such as Sicily, Italy and Malta stopped at the lighthouse.

Kipouria Monastery (Moni Kipouraion) built in 1759 by Archimandrite Chrysanthos Petropoulos from Paxos. Its name “Kipouria” comes from the greek word “kipos” (land, vegetable garden) as the monks supported themselves by cultivating all the land around the monastery. It is overhanging a cliff that crashes into the Ionian, 100 meters above the sea level, in a unique landscape. It has view to the west with a courtyard for guests to attend one of the most spectacular sunsets of Kefalonia. This beauty and serenity of the location together with its spiritual treasures constitutes the Monastery a supreme attraction for the visitor. Within the Monastery one can worship the miraculous icon of the Annunciation as well as the skulls of the founders of the Monastery, Chrisanthos, Konstantios and Efronios. A piece of the Holy Cross offered to the Monastery by the Russian Prince Vladimiros Dolgoroukis in 1862 is also kept in the Monastery. An elegant glass jar holds St Dimitrios’ Myrovlytis holy myron from the 7th AC century. One can also worship various Saint’s relics as well as Agia (Saint) Paraskevi’s miraculous icon, a unique treasure of the destroyed Tafios Monastery. Holy relics, rare post-Renaissance, post-Byzantine and Italian-Cretan icons and items of faith can be found in the church which was built within the monastery area. The Monastery celebrates on: March 25th, Annunciation of the Holy Virgin 3rd Sunday of Lent, Holy Cross Worship Day September 14th, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, with devout vigil in the presence of the local Metropolitan July 26th, feast day of Agia Paraskevi.
