Food scene

This restaurant does not look "impressive," but the food is great, plentiful, and affordable. We have specifically tried their taco salad, bistec a la Mexicana, fajita mix grill, and their al pastor tacos, and we enjoyed it all. The chips and salsa leave a little to be desired, but their non-traditional guacamole is a steal at $4.

My wife LOVED their tomato basil soup. For $12 (ish) you can get a bowl of soup and a full sandwich. If you aren't that hungry, they also offer an option for a cup of soup and a half sandwich. If you are a tomato basil soup lover though, this is a must try.

We tried their chicken strips (I got their bourbon style and my wife got their BBQ) and we both liked them. We picked it up and drove it back to the house (15 minutes) so the fries weren't that great, but I'm guessing they would have been 10x better if we ate it there (or at the little park just down the road in McCaysville).

This place is your typical "Waffle House" style restaurant (don't say that to them though!). I ate a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and my mouth is literally watering thinking about it. This place is not "classy," but the food was good and the banter back and forth between the workers and their regulars made the place seem a little like Cheers, just without the beer.

We have been here a couple times, and I like the workers just as much as I like the food. The first time I went I ordered a philly cheesesteak and fries, and they were great. They don't have a dine in option, so I ate them in my truck while enjoying the sights around me. Last time we went we ordered a pizza, and my wife loved it. She took our son to the park a couple minutes away and they ate and had a little play date. To be fair, my wife loves those little $1 frozen pizzas, so she might not be the best judge, but she would be happy to go back anytime.

This place was recommended to us by a local resident who works across the street from it. I am a BBQ snob, so I normally set my expectations low when I'm trying a new place as to not be disappointed, but pleasantly this place was great. Our waitress was nice, the environment was nice, and my brisket nachos were amazing (even though the waitress seemed unsure about them). I was a little apprehensive eating brisket in pork country, but I was pleasantly surprised.

This place is a little drive from our cabin, but I am enamored by the landscape so I don't mind making the trip. This place has an amazing lunch that offers a big bang for the buck. Their dinner is also reasonably priced and offers good portion sizes, but the value of their lunch is hard to beat. Last time we went (for dinner), I really enjoyed the cheese sticks (I know, getting fancy here) and chicken fried stake. Our son would recommend the sweet potato to anyone who will listen, but to be fair he doesn't typically get sugary foods, so he couldn't get enough. They also have a good assortment of pies and cakes, which taste, well, like pies and cakes.

You can find "The Coffee House" (which is what their name translates to) in the historic Blue Ridge downtown. They serve local coffee made how you would like it, along with delicious looking slices of cake (I haven't had a chance to try the cake yet). They offer both inside and outside seating options, and free wifi with your purchase. I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but I enjoyed my latte as I imagine you will too.

I've been here twice, and I don't know exactly how to review this place. It is certainly not glamorous, not in the slightest, but that's part of its charm to me. If you can get past the rustic appearance, then you might want to give them a try. I'm from Texas where our chili dogs are simple; add a little mustard, onion, chili, and cheese and you have a great meal. Go further north east and you will find a new ingredient: coleslaw referred to simply as "slaw". I wasn't the biggest fan of their slaw dog, but to me it's a must try for anyone looking for something unique. Ultimately, I look at this place as an affordable, local favorite, that I can go to and enjoy a meal while making a memory of something new.

This coffeehouse is exactly what I imagine a coffeehouse should be like. Their coffee is good (I'm not a coffee connoisseur though), they have fresh baked sweets, and most importantly, they are designed in a way that you can enjoy the company of your friends and family. Regardless of if you are by yourself trying to get some work done (this was me on my first visit), or if you are with others and want to play a board game while you enjoy your coffee, or anything in between, this place is perfect for you.
