There are so many good places to get something to eat in Tenerife that it is almost impossible to choose what to recommend. What we have done instead is listed some of our favourites. If you would like us to check their opening times or make a reservation, please do ask and we shall be more than happy to help.

Situated at the end of a narrow track with passing places, this restaurant is a real find! It is rather like sitting on the deck of a ship, with fantastic views of the sea below it, and the hills behind. From here it is possible to walk down a flight of steps onto the beach itself, where there is a beach cafe. You can also walk along a path through banana plantations either back to Puerto de la Cruz or on to one of the other more secluded beaches along the coast.
The menu here is made up of great tapas, meat and seafood dishes and excellent local wines. By all means ask to share (compartir) dishes, so you can have a taste of everything. If the pork croquetas are on the menu they are a must try!

If you have the head for it, walk out onto their glass bottomed viewing platform for some spectacular photos. Modern fusion food menu. Camino los GomezGuachinches are traditional eating places in Tenerife, often located within the owner's vineyard as a way for him or her to sell their surplus wine. Don't expect 3 Star Michelin, it will usually be clean and simple bbq meat, often no menu, and usually only wine or water to drink.
This particular guachinche is about 200 metres away and one of the most popular on the island (very useful when we are giving details of how to find us for deliveries!). If you don't speak any Spanish you may struggle, and be prepared to wait for a table if you do go.
On a stretch of coastline beyond Garachico that is rather wild and well worth exploring (don't miss Puertito de los Silos with it's whale skeleton and amazing bird sculpture), this restaurant is a must find. Situated opposite the world famous Loro Parque on the outskirts of Puerto de la Cruz, this is a lovely little cafe/bar/restaurant, ideal for just a sandwich or something more substantial, their lenguado or sole is excellent. We've always had good friendly service.

Turn right at the bottom of Camino los Gomez, and in a few hundred metres you will find Tasca Sansofé, a delightful little place with lovely casual food such as great salads and tapas.

Areas to visit
The one thing that normally amazes first time visitors to Tenerife is how diverse an island it is. Foreign visitors usually land at the south airport, flying in over the new tourist towns that have sprung up along the south western coast of the island, so could be forgiven for thinking that all Tenerife has to offer is a barren landscape with modern concrete hotel and apartment blocks.
But there is SO much more! Here are some of our top picks.
Within a 10 to 15 minute walk from Casa Viña, you come upon the beautiful and historic old town of La Orotava. You can spend hours if you have them wandering through the old cobbled streets, admiring the old houses, a visit to one of the several churches and museums maybe, and lots of places to stop of for a drink or a bite to eat. If you fancy doing a bit of shopping, remember that most shops close in the afternoon, and all day Sunday.

The capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz is a bustling port city, with lots of shops and modern shopping malls. Step away from these into the old town and you will find so much more to explore. A must visit for us is always the market, of which more below, and there are museums, several parks, the auditorium, the palmerium, and just outside, the white sand beach of Las Teresitas. There's a good regular bus service from La Orotava to the capital if you don't fancy driving there.

The capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz is a bustling port city, with lots of shops and modern shopping malls. Step away from these into the old town and you will find so much more to explore. A must visit for us is always the market, of which more below, and there are museums, several parks, the auditorium, the palmerium, and just outside, the white sand beach of Las Teresitas. There's a good regular bus service from La Orotava to the capital if you don't fancy driving there.
An incredible and remote valley in the far north west of the island. There is only one road in and out, which provides some spectacular views but is not for the faint hearted driver. You can also take a tour bus there or the local bus service. It is well worth the visit to see this tiny remote hamlet. For experienced hikers, you can take a trail down to the see through a narrow gorge, but you must book in advance and be part of an organised group as the authorities have had to carry out too many rescues of ill prepared visitors.

If you go nowhere else in Santa Cruz, go here! 2 floors of the freshest fruits and vegetables, meats, delicatessen produce, fish and shellfish, herbs and spices, wines, speciality tea and coffee shops, and more. We find we can spend a whole morning browsing the stalls.

A delightful little fishing village with a coastal path walk to the bigger resort of Mesa del Mar, El Pris is worth a visit. Swim in the sea pool or have a lazy lunch in the seafood cafe El Pescador.

Rated as the world's number 1, Loro Parque is only 10 minutes or so away by car, or park in Puerto and take the free mini train and see some of Puerto at the same time. You can buy tickets in advance on the web or from many ticket offices around and about, and if you plan to visit Siam Park, the water park in the south, make sure to save by buying a joint ticket for both.
My favourite at Loro Parque? Probably the penguins, but there is so much to choose from.

No one should visit Tenerife and not take a trip up Spain's highest mountain, Mount Teide. Either take an organised tour or drive yourself, there is so much to explore. You can even take the bus from La Orotava, but make sure you don't miss the bus back!
From Casa Vińa you can take the TF21 all the way to the top, but we would recommend taking the route from La Esperanza up the spine of the island, as there are many viewing points, called miradors, from which you can see so many parts of the whole island. As you drive up and up, you go through chestnut forests, then pine forests, and on into the caldera itself. If you want to go to the very top, you can take a cable car but it's worth booking this in advance. Be aware that the climate can be very different up there, take warm clothing and if you plan to walk make sure you have water and good footwear as the weather can change quickly. On the other hand if the weather seems cloudy it can often be above the cloud and bright sunshine up there! There is a visitor centre at El Portillo which is worth a visit.

The old and historic part of La Laguna is a must to visit, with its narrow streets, historic buildings and cathedrals. the original capital, it is the home of the University of Tenerife which gives it a unique flavour. Parking can be very difficult to find.

A must visit place. Garachico was the most important port on the island until an eruption in 1706 silted up the harbour. Wander round the old streets and parks, stopping perhaps for a drink in the town hall square, and visit the sea front where in summer locals swim in the giant rock pools.

Do take time to visit the coast here, yet another side to Tenerife, with is wild coast line, natural sea pools for swimming, and don't miss the full sized whale skeleton and the giant sized bird sculpture made from flotsam and jetsam.

For years we had travelled past what looks from the TF1 like a half built church waiting to be finished, and it took us a long time to find out about it; the history is quite fascinating. The church and surrounding buildings were intended to be a leper colony. Leprosy had been a major problem on the island, and work started in 1943 to build a settlement with hospital, crematorium, houses and a church. However, before completion, leprosy was all but eradicated and now the empty buildings provide an eerie atmosphere. Nearby, a small, modern resort has been built.

Los Gigantes is named after the giant cliffs that overlook it. Situated on the west coast, it is now a modern town with a beach and marina, from where you can take a boat trip whale and dolphin watching and see the huge cliffs from the sea.
