Our studio is situated in the neighbourhood called Cointe. Below you will find our tips for restaurants and sightseeing. Restaurants The people in Liège like to enjoy life and therefore it is always recommendable to make a reservation, if you plan to visit a restaurant. Most places tend to get full quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday. Below you will find our recommendations for eating close to our house. Below addresses can easily be reached by walking 10-15 minutes maximum and you will see that there is no reason to be hungry! - Mirabella (Rue des Guillemins 112, +32 4 226 04 22) : best pizza in the neighbourhood and around - Le voyage de papa (Rue des Guillemins 77, +32 499 40 46 28) : amazing Moroccan inspired food. Great place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. - Le Concordia (Rue des Guillemins 114, +32 4 252 29 15) : this is a traditional restaurant that serves some typical Liège dishes (like the “boulet liegeois” and “the Américain” (raw meat)). They are famous for their French fries, which are served in the typical cone, which are available for takeaway (there is a separate entrance for takeaway, mostly there is a queue) - Les voisines (Avenue Blonden 27, +32 4 250 50 89): Amazing restaurant for organic food, unfortunately only lunch during weekdays -Juliette (Rue des Guillemins 109, +32 4 265 13 54): Nice sandwicherie for breakfast and lunch -Get Your Mug Guillemins (Rue des Guillemins 106, +32 472 76 16 03) : Coffee and sandwich for breakfast and lunch -Madame Boverie (Parc de la boverie 3). This is the museum coffee shop located in the parc with the same name. They have an amazing terrace. They also offer picnic baskets that you can take in the parc. -Sottopiano (Rue Louvrex 78, +32 4 234 79 34): high class Italian food in an amazing setting -Bakery Eggenols (Rue des Guillemins 92) : they are well known for the typical Liège waffles. For us they are not the best in town (see below, Une Gaufrette saperlipopette), but they come close. The royal family comes here for their Liège waffles when they are in town -Ice Cream “A Cortina” (Rue de Serbie 3): If you want to enjoy Italian home made ice-cream close to our house -Riva Brasserie (Esplanade Albert 1er 7, +32 4 222 27 23): high class food and one of the few places that has a terrace that gives a view on the river -Grand Café de la Gare. This place in the station houses both a « brasserie” and “a restaurant” and the food is actually good quality. In the station you can also find other places to grab a sandwich, there is sushi and Starbucks. -Les Tartes de Francoise (Rue des Guillemins 74): great place to grab a desert, this is a chain out of Brussels but everything tastes like it’s homemade. We are addicted to their cheese cake. They also make great quiches. - L’aigle D’or (Place du General Leman 19, +32 4 262 19 85): if you want to go local, this is a café that also serves the typical Liège dishes. Their boulet liegeois are actually one of the best in Liège. - Le Péristyle (Rue Fush 3). Situated in the botanical garden, nice place to grab a coffee. Check the opening times on Internet before you go. - L’Atelier Pates Guillemins (Rue des Guillemins 76, +32 498 42 88 05)) : Italian Restaurant with Fresh Pasta and grilled vegetables. These guys recently opened a new place called Terrazza Calmati, also on walking distance from our house (Rue Albert de Cuyck 13, +32 471 12 40 77, only SMS) and as the name indicates, it comes with a great terrace. - Kiosq (rue du puits 1a, +32 4 257 46 56). A new place for lunch and coffee. - Les mémés qui papotent (Rue des Guillemins 53). Nice Sandwicherie In terms of supermarkets, there is a Delhaize in the Guillemins station and a GB just in front. Both are open both during the week and weekends. As an alternative, there is a very nice Turkish grocery store in the Rue des Guillemins 75 (Melis 2) which has an amazing offer in fresh fruits and vegetables or there is Georgette (Place du Batty 11), a bio supermarket. We can also recommend the cheese shop “Caseus” in de Rue des Guillemins 88 as they have a great offer. For bakeries in our neighbourhood, you can either go to Patisserie Jean Pierre (Rue Dartois 42) or Le Beffroi (Rue du Batty 7). Sightseeing Most sightseeing can be done in the historical centre, but if you have the time, it is worth exploring our neighbourhood as well. If you have come by train, you probably have already admired the Guillemins Train Station. It is really worth taking the time to visit this architectural wonder, both on the inside and outside. Most of the time there is also a popular interactive exhibition in the station. Our neighbourhood is really one of the main green lungs of Liège and we have quite a number of city parcs close by (parc de cointe, parc de la boverie and botanical garden). In the parc de cointe there is nice viewpoint (be ready to climb a bit) which will give a great overview over the city. You can also walk up to the Tour Memorial, the Eglise du Sacré Coeur (which is not a church anymore) and you can walk by the observatory that has given the name to our street. Even though all these sites have historical value, they unfortunately cannot be visited on the inside. When you are at the top of the hill, it is worthwhile visiting the residential area around (start at place du Batty and at the round about take the Avenue de cointe), as this is where the rich and famous live in Liege, in beautiful art deco and castle style houses. We also live close to the river and if the weather is beautiful it is nice to spend some time at the river, which the people in Liège are also rediscovering, since the river sidewalks have been completely renovated. The pedestrian Bridge “La Belle Liegeoise” connects the end of the station square with the parc de la boverie, which houses the museum with the same name. Check out their website (https://www.laboverie.com) to see which exhibitions are running. The building of the museum in itself is already worth visiting. On our side of the pedestrian bridge there is also a stop to take the “navette fluviale”, which will take you by boat on the river to the city centre in no time. Between our neigbourhood and the historical city centre you will find the museum “Trinkhall”(www.trinkhall.museum) previously called MadMusée, situated in the parc d’avroy. This museum houses a unique collection of Art Brut. The museum has recently been fully renovated and it comes with a nice museum café and when the weather allows, you can enjoy food and drinks on their terrace.

How to get to the city centre from our studio: It takes about 20-25 minutes to reach the historical city centre on foot from the studio. You can obviously also use public transport. There are regular trains from Liege Guillemins that will bring you to a little train station into the historical city centre. The name of the station in the city centre is Liège Saint Lambert and you can find the timetable on www.nmbs.be . During a part of spring, summer and autumn, there is also a boat that you will bring you from the pedestrian bridge “Belle Liegeoise” into the city centre (for timetable: navettefluviale.be, our stop is Guillemins) . There are also regular buses ( lines 1, 4, 48 and 25)that leave from the train station to the city centre. They are often very packed and not comfortable, so we try to avoid them if possible but you can use them if you are in a hurry. The city is investing in building a tramway that will make public transport in Liege more efficient. What to do and where to eat in the historical city centre? The most recent guides on Liège, that you will find in your room, give you quite a nice picture of what there is to do and where to eat in Liège. You will see that the city centre of Liège is pretty well preserved but there are also more modern interventions which do not always fit well. So it takes a bit of time to discover the charm of the city, but you once you get the hang of it, you will see that the city has a lot to offer. Quite some renovation works are still ongoing and as the city is building a tramway, you will stumble across a lot of roadworks for the moment. Below you will find some of our highlights which you should not miss - Brasserie C (Impasse des Ursulines 14): this is by far the most beautiful terrace in Liège in an incredible historical and charming setting. This the perfect spot to enjoy a drink before or after you have climbed the Montagne de Bueren - Une Gaufrette Saperlipopette (rue des mineurs): This is the best place to eat the famous Liege Waffle but all other deserts are equally amazing. Everything is made bio in the traditional way. Mostly there is a big queue but this is worth the wait. There is now also a glacerie attached. - If you are a fan of exploring nature in the city, it is worth walking the “coteaux de la citadelle”. There are different access points but if you have the time to do the full tour, go up the rue pierreuse and enter via de Ferme de la vache. You can walk around the hill and this will ultimately bring you to Saint Leonard, on the other side of the city. - Don’t miss out on the “Impasses”, little medieval alleys, that will make you dream on how charming Liege is. - If you want to escape in the city centre all the noise, you can either have a drink in the court yard of the Musee de la vie wallonne or take a break in court yard of the Cathedral Saint Paul. - Even if Cathedral Saint Paul is the most well known church in Liège, don’t miss out on Eglise Saint Jacques, which is absolutely stunning from the inside. - Don’t miss out on the streets En Neuvice and Rue Souveraint Pont. They are full of great little shops, nice restaurants and cafes. - If you like art, like we do, don’t miss out on these places SPACE Collection Espace 251 Nord Galerie Nadja Vilenne Les Brasseurs Galerie Les Drapiers Kultura - If you are in Liège on Fridays, do not miss out on the flea market in Outremeuse (Boulevard de la constitution).
