Pinnacles National Park
This park was created in 1916 and is located east of the Salinas Valley. It features the remains of an ancient lava field. The pinnacles are domed rock structures that look as if they have been pushed out of the earth. This is a popular spot for hiking, rock climbing and camping. The park is home to more than 200 species of birds and includes the iconic California Condor that boasts a nine foot wingspan and a bald head. For the adventurous, take the Bear Gulch Cave Trail. This trail is 1.5 miles long and leads you through two different coves. The Moses Spring Trail will lead you to the Bear Gulch Reservoir and passes towering volcanic structures.
Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey offers great restaurants, unique shops, fishing and sailing, seafood & chowder, whale watching and bay cruises. You'll also see a saltwater taffy machine.
