Best Japanese in West Van, likely the Northshore. (I'm Japanese... 'nough said?) Elvis Costello and his wife Dianna Krall eat here too as inquiring minds want to know.

Dope bakehouse. Literally. That's the name "Dope Bakehouse" All of their products are next level. Likely the best in all of Van. Yes, better than Thomas Haas or Temper. It's attached to the Polygon Gallery at the Lonsdale Quay which is a gorgeous gallery right on the waterfront in North Vancouver https://www.nemesis.coffee/

A newbie to the West Vancouver scene, Isetta was once an iconic Gas Station and Mechanics garage. Worth the 15 - 20 min drive, It’s located along the scenic Marine Drive on the way to Lighthouse Park so if you’re headed there (highly recommended) it’s the perfect spot for a lunch or brilliant espresso. Repurposed mindfully in keeping with its West Coast Modern heritage, the designers and architects who finished the project did an amazing job! 5 star environment 5 star coffee 4 star food 3 star pastry (they are working out the kinks… hey they’re pretty new) https://www.isetta.ca/

Indian Fusion has been around for about 10 years of so. Deliciously fresh, not over cooked all-day curries and tandoori. Great for take out as the interior is generally pretty bad.

Beautiful new upscale Japanese Market. Super quality products and surprisingly fair prices for the quality. I love that they have a great selection of products that I’ve only seen in Japan. Their bento take away boxes are beautiful and well priced. Definitely the best Japanese take-away in Vancouver (coming from someone w/ Japanese heritage. Amazing!

For sure one of the nicest summer outdoor patio’s in West Vancouver w/ a killer view across Ambleside Beach, Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge. The food is upscale western w/ great burgers, and clean west-coast fare. The vibe is lively but it can be a little noisy indoors if you’re looking for something more intimate, maybe not this. But for a fun beachside meal. It’s tops!

Cliffside trails leading to the water's edge overlooking Stanley Park, Downtown Vancouver and Kitsilano. Lots of old-growth trees some w/ a 12' circumference. Mind-blowing. I'd say this is a must vsit for 1st timers to Vancouver and its a 15 minute drive away

It's a mall, but seeing as West Van is some of the most expensive real estate in all of Canada, you can guess it's pretty Chic. Big brands and independents. Outdoor lifestyle and fashion. We call it Pork Royale

Northshore Classic Hikes. 45 mins to all day? How much time do you have? Summer Cliff jumping up to 30' plunging into Emerald crystal clear pools. There's an ecology centre there that's great if you'd like to learn about the local flora and fauna.

The best high elevation panorama in the area. Skiing and boarding is not bad. Not Whistler or Blackcomb but they have night passes that makes you feel like you're on top of the world on a clear night. For you sado masochists out there, you can hike the Grouse Grind up in the off season if you really want to blast your cardio into the next dimension. NOT for the faint of heart

A little out of the way hidden gem, Cypress falls is a 15 min drive west on the Upper Levels Hwy. With the trailhead starting in a parking lot in a small neighbourhood, the 1.5 hr hike follows a small river that crashes through several waterfalls! For the daring… If you veer right (about 20 meters from the start of the hike) and go down steeply (not so safe for small kids) you’ll find a climbing rope off an old growth tree that helps you down-climb to the river gorge. Here you can swim in cold smooth carved rock pools or hike through when the water is low. It’s just magic! If you’re a climber, there’s a summer sport crag down there too that starts at 5.11!

The oldest and vitally used suspension bridge that links West Vancouver and the Northshore to the downtown core via Stanley Park. Walk or ride your bike across! It’s breath taking and about a 90 min walk across and back from the house.

Like many of the hidden gems, it’s worth the time and 1hr intermediate rated hike to make it to Whyte Lake. The hike there (tho mainly up hill at a modest grade) is a good little workout which is rewarded by a fresh water lake. Swimmer friendly, it’s small, clean and very warm in the summer. As it’s part of the West Vancouver watershed, I don’t believe dogs can swim here. Bring a water bottle and a picnic lunch!!! FYI… not much cel signal once you’re up there!
