We have written a complete guide with tips not only to discover the most famous places in Tenerife, but also some "secret" spots only known by locals, info about local cuisine, traditions, most remarkable events, etc. We hope you find it useful and enjoy your stay, feel free to ask any question you want. About Bajamar town itself, It’s a tiny, cosy and calm place, enjoy it just walking around. Although now you will begin to see some tourists here, it still keeps a local atmosphere. Till a few years ago Bajamar was the Summer destination just for locals living in La Laguna, since the weather in that city is usually awful, at least for us!! (one of the first thing you will discover in Tenerife are “microclimates”, almost every town has its own weather!! ;). The most famous spots here are the natural pools and the beach. Also from time to time when there is a sea storm you will enjoy some huge waves breaking near the small lighthouse, it’s really a gorgeous spectacle, but it’s a pity it only happens very rarely, most times the sea is calm, perfect for a swim. If you want to go a bit further, there are some more pools near the “Club Náutico” (West), a bit wilder and volcanic (some of them are nudist), and on the other side (East) you will see El Arenal beach (famous among surfers), a large beach with black and red sand, it will bit not so crowded since the access is a bit complicated. If you like to try the local cuisine, don’t miss “La Cofradía” restaurant, one of the best places to eat fish in this area. You will also find many other restaurants, pizzerias, cafeterias, etc. If you like surfing and water sports, you will find in Bajamar the Canarian Surf School (http://www.escuelacanariadesurf.com) and some spots to try surfing. For those (like me) who love hiking, Bajamar is one of the gates to enter the Anaga mountains and its prehistoric rainforest, see our recommended hikes for more info! And one thing you can not miss from Bajamar, are the spectacular sunsets over the sea, enjoy them from the natural pools!

About 3 km to from Bajamar to the East you will find the nearest town, Punta del Hidalgo. It’s also very small, you can enjoy a walk there following a path that joins Bajamar with Punta del Hidalgo next to the sea, there are wonderful views of the wild Arenal beach. In Punta del Hidalgo (called also La Punta) you will find a big pool to enjoy a bath, some restaurants with good fish, etc. We recommend you enjoy a walk from the big lighthouse to the end of the sand track: you will see many small sea pools there to have a bath, and the views at the end of the path are really impressive, with the big Anaga mountains in front of you. According to the legend, in a cave somewhere in those mountains a big treasure was hidden by the most famous local pirate in the Canary Islands, Amaro Pargo (1678-1747), and despite all the people who have been looking for that treasure for several centuries, it still remains undiscovered waiting for a lucky person! Also around that area (near the end of the road and the last bus stop) there are several beautiful footpaths that goes to the mountains (for example, you can enjoy the hike to Cruz del Carmen via Chinamada or via Los Batanes).

Tejina is also very close, about 4 km, but unfortunately there is no a good path for pedestrian to go there from Bajamar (anyway, you can reach it following the road, but be careful with cars). In Tejina there is not too much to see, but you will find many shops and big supermarkets where you can do your buying. The place we most like in Tejina is Jover, on the coast (a few km from the town centre), where you can find another nice sea pool.
