To compile a list of eateries in Cape Town is, at best, a dangerous endeavour - there's already one too many foodie about claiming their latest "Top X-list". I prefer a binary approach: either "what's good within a reasonable amble", or "would I really get into a car for what they offer" (my credit card statement have these listed in random repeat order; for lists of famous or latest-hype-chef experiments please check in on what the experts claim at sources such as https://insideguide.co.za/cape-town/best-restaurants/ or https://www.eatout.co.za/article/best-of-cape-town/ )
These however, are quite literally, on your doorstep:
Kleinsky's made their name as THE go to place for the best New York style bagels in Cape Town. Recently moved to new larger premises with more seating, but same friendly staff.

If you're vegan (or in the market to have your worldly beliefs challenged) try the chocolate sorbet for something out of this world. Its sooo creamy that it doesn't taste a bit like sorbet and it only has 15% sugar - carries my 2yr old daughter's stamp of approval!

Little Italy in the Mother City - best pizza in town, great pasta, a true institution. When that's where the Italians eat and the owner / manager / host is Italian, you know its the real deal. Lovely wood fireplace adds to the laid-back atmosphere and homely feeling. Also our go-to for pizza take away - never more than 15mins from placing the order if they're not too busy.

Consider stocking up on fresh produce (organic and directly from the farm), bread, meat, fish, cheese and other delicacies. By far the best place to in the Waterfront if you don't like shops!
