For the best authentic Mexican food and large portions. Yani and Rapha (owners) are friendly and love to serve. My favorite are Fish Tacos with Yani's special sauce. Tell them Lani said Aloha!

My Favorite Beaches

On the South Kohala Coast, we have the two of world's best beaches. Be sure to apply/reapply sunscreen and watch the waves. Never turn your back to the ocean.
Fine, white sand, and a great place for a morning walk. Swimming is easy and the beach bar is at the North end. Bring your own beach chairs, and snorkel gear.

When it's windy everywhere else Wailea Bay aka Beach 69 (located between the 69 mile marker of the highway), this beach is great for snorkeling. White sand and crystal clear aquamarine water. Get there early or late afternoon for the best times. Or stay all day with a book. Remember to hydrate!

Better than Waikiki, (except for the surf). Fine, white sandy beach with lots of room for everyone. Great for boogie boarding and swimming. Be sure to bring your umbrella as the sun intensifies between 12pm-3pm. Lifeguards are active here due to the strong under current on big wave days. Caution; watch the flags on the beach for surf advisories.

My Favorite Hikes

Hawaii has many trails and terrains to hike and explore. Please Malama the Aina (take care of the land as you cross it's path). Beware cell phone service unavailable in some areas. Like my momma said, "When in doubt-don't."
A great hike from the top to the bottom. Steep going down, (find a walking stick on the side of the path to assist you). When you get to the bottom, take a dip in the ocean on a calm water day. Caution, do not drink from any streams on the islands. Bring your own water.

This hike will take you down 800 ft into the ‘Valley of Kings’. Waipi’o valley can be described as a lush, tropical, fairy tale valley with many waterfalls and a black sand surfers beach. Make sure to take plenty of water, some food and a trash bag to pack out everything you take in.

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens are my favorite botanical gardens on the Big Island. In the gardens you can see over 2000 different species of plants and trees and a visit here is a must-do for everyone with green fingers! Take note, admission to the gardens is not free. The fee for one day is $20 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 16. Children under 6 are free (2019 rates). The gardens are opened daily between 9 am and 5 pm, but the latest admission is at 4 pm.

A great way to experience local businesses and food. Start early, for best selections.
