A lovely courtyard just next to the beautiful st Mary of Graces catholic church, where traditional Cypriot food is served. An ideal place to eat out in the summer, especially if you have children, as there is a play area with grass. Definitely try the yogurt, as it is made by Mr. Andrea the owner.

Gil's award winning Japanese Restaurant in Larnaca strictly an Asian affair to the core. His early years in the UK provided his foundation of his knowledge, but it was the partnership in Nippon restaurant that defined his mission, he embraced the Cypriot market with the cooking practice of the far east. He initiated the island's love of sushi and continues to raise the benchmark with ever changing recipes. Food is not cheap, but you will definitely enjoy every bite of it!

Drinks & Nightlife

I love my rock music ;) if you don't want to dress up, just want to go and have one of the many beers available (or even a cocktail) in nice surroundings in the old part of town, this is the place to be! This award winning rock bar has been open for many years now. Moulos (funnily nicknamed after a donkey) aka Christos is the owner and will make you feel at home. Don't be surprised if your picture is taken whilst you are sitting. He has been taking pictures of everyone that visited, since the bar opened. I've had my picture taken as far back as 18 years old! You can also visit Savino live, just next to the bar, and watch live bands on the weekends. Visit their facebook page for info

Nestled in the back streets of Larnaca’s Laiki Geitonia, Old Market street bar has become increasingly popular since opening four years ago. A funky bar where you can sit outside and enjoy a coffee on a sunny afternoon, have early evening tapas and a nice cool drink, or enjoy one of the brilliant cocktails at night!! I always have the "message in a bottle" cocktail :)

Have you ever had a drink whilst facing a plain landing? bet you haven't! Mackenzie beach is just next to the airport fence, and hosts a few of the best bars, clubs and coffee shops in Larnaca. I would suggest Ammos beach bar for extreme fun with local or international dj's or bands!

Sightseeing

This beautiful monument is located on the west bank of the Salt Lake. It is an important Islamic monument, one of the most revered sites in the Muslim world and it is used to this day for religious purposes. The mosque was built over the grave of Umm Haram or Ummü Haram, who was believed to be the sister of the Prophet Mohammed’s foster mother or a follower from Medina to Cyprus. Umm Haram arrived on the island either in 647 or 649, during the Arab raids led by the Arab Governor of Syria, Moawiya, in an effort to expand the Muslim empire in the Mediterranean Sea. However Umm Haram died shortly after her arrival and buried in the same place where she had fallen off her mule and died.

The small Panagia Faneromeni Church is located on the busy thoroughfare of Faneromeni Avenue (named after the church), and dates back to the early 20th century. It is devoted to the Virgin Mary and replaces a Medieval church on the same spot, whilst a cave underneath served as an early Christian church and was originally a royal monolithic tomb of the town’s prehistoric times – believed to most likely be Mycenaean Greek. Today, a larger, modern church sits beside the older one and was constructed to serve the expanding community of the parish. The small church and its cave are credited with various magical properties; those who suffer from headaches or other diseases walk three times around

Located at the end of the Foinikoudes promenade, the Medieval Castle of Larnaka (also referred to as Larnaka Fort) is believed to have been originally built during the Middle Ages, and took its present form during Ottoman rule, although there is some contestation regarding its origins. Chronographer Florius Boustronius dates it to the years of Lusignan King James I (1382-1398AD), who built it to protect the harbour of the town. During the same time, the Genovese occupied Famagusta and the Lusignans had to develop another major port for the needs of their kingdom. 18th century sources insist that the castle was built by the Turks in 1625AD, even though a Turkish garrison was stationed there

This beautiful 18th century aqueduct can be found on the road heading towards Lemesos in the area of Kamares, which takes its name from the distinctive arches (‘kamares’ in Greek). An open-air sight, the aqueduct was built in the Roman style in 1746 by the Turkish governor of Larnaka, Bekir Pasha, who funded it out of his own sources to carry water to Larnaka from a source about 10km away. The aqueduct was abandoned in 1939 and its function replaced by modern pipes. There are more than 20 arches still intact, and these are strikingly illuminated at night. A cobbled area with benches and a footpath allow you to enjoy the site of this monument, with the path linking up with Larnaka Salt Lake.

The architectural ruins of the ancient city-kingdom of Kition provide the first clear evidence that the Mycenaean Greeks arrived in Larnaka in the 13th century BC, and the Phoenicians in the 9th. Kition was well known for its harbour during antiquity, from which many agricultural products were exported to the eastern Mediterranean, Egypt and the Aegean. Moreover, its strategic position rendered it an exceptional naval base. Of particular interest at the ancient port are the drawings of ships etched into the walls of buildings.

Besides its picturesque beauty, the lake is the haunt of 85 species of water-birds. It is one of the important migratory passages through Cyprus. An estimated 2,000–12,000 flamingos spend the winter months there feeding off populations of the brine shrimp. The beautiful sunset makes the salt lake the ideal place to share with the person you love and even propose!
