Our favorite restaurant in Gold Canyon. Get there early or make a reservation - it gets busy. The food is really good. There a large bar and TV's everywhere for non-stop sports action. If you want a full NFL Sunday at a great spot try and get in here.
There are live bands playing most nights so it can get pretty loud. If your looking for a quiet spot to have diner this may not be your best choice - check out Kokopelli's Restaurant (in my Guidebook also).

Kokopelli's restaurant is located in the Gold Canyon Golf Resort & Spa. The food is very good - I love the osso buco. There is inside and patio seating available.
Call ahead and make a reservation if possible. All of the local restaurants get busy during the fall and winter seasons.

This is the first place I ate at in Gold Canyon - it was the only thing open after drove in late. It's a fun spot and our go to beer spot after golf or hiking.
They don't have a kitchen but they serve good bar food so don't expect a full menu. Karaoke some nights and a popular spot for the locals.

Ok, my wife Nancy is Chinese and immigrated here from China. I've eaten some of the best Chinese food in the world while in China as well as here in the US. I'm saying this because we are very serious about our Chinese food.
I've eaten food from here once. IMO it's your typical American-Chinese restaurant. But if you just have to have Chinese food here's a spot close by. I'm not saying the food is not good, just saying it's not my style.

I have this H-Mart listed in the Grocery Store section also but it also has an amazing food court inside. I I say in the grocery review, there are the best asian eateries close by on Dobson Road from the 60 to the 202 loop.

Bashas'
5311 S Superstition Mountain DrOur local grocery store. Close and convenient!
Bashas' is close and convenient and you can get most of what you wan there but, Fry's is huge and offers a lot more selections and choices (and better pricing for the most part). It's a large store and has food as well as sundries, cookware, accessories, etc., etc, etc.
We shop here when we are buying bulk or a long trip.
Just up the 60, before you take the turn west, you can continue straight onto "Old West Highway" (locally know as "The Trail"). This road will end at Goldfield Road. Turn right and follow the road as it curves left to get onto the Old West Highway.
Fry's Marketplace is about 2 1/2 miles up on the right at Idaho Road. There are several fast food places and a Fry's Gas station there also.

If you are looking for high-end food and don't care about prices this is your spot. It's a bit of a drive, but if you want that 2 inch ribeye you'll find yourself here.

Right up the road from the Lost Dutchman State Park entrance you will see a sign that says "First Water Trailhead." There is a parking lot not far from the entrance and at the end of this lot you will see an entrance to a service road (SRV RD 78). There is a sign posted there that warns you that the road is not maintained for passenger vehicles (or something like that). The road is not that bad and I've seen passenger cars on it but, there are a few flood-washed areas that could give cars without much ground clearance trouble. If you are in a small rental you may have trouble. Please use good judgement and caution.
The road ends at a well maintained parking lot with bathrooms about two miles in. The Dutchman's trailhead starts here and there are several signs that provide information about the area.
This is a favorite hiking spot for many and the views are spectacular.

Quaint little spot with a lot of history about the area and the legend of the Lost Dutchman's gold. The biggest working model train setups I've seen. There is a small trail that winds its way around the site which is full of old mining equipment and small buildings.

The closest Lake to our house only about 30 minutes away (18 miles). It's a great spot to cool off in late spring or the summer but the water is pretty cold in the fall and winter seasons.
It gets busy here and there are two "single-lane" bridges that can cause delays.

Roosevelt Lake is about a one and a half hour drive from the house. It's huge. In fact, it is the largest lake or reservoir located entirely within the state of Arizona.

Some of my favorite spots
I was lucky enough to be introduced to Maria who runs the Good Shepherd Healing Ministries Horse Rescue by a good friend. Maria and her group of volunteers take in rescued or abandoned horses and nurse them back to health.
A lot of the horses have been adopted through donations and the volunteers and many locals groom and take care of the horses at the ranch.
If you love horses you should stop by. They do an amazing job.
