Fun on the water!

Snorkeling is great here. Things to keep in mind. You can take the ferry over to the island.
Snorkeling is really good here and the island is about 10 minutes away. You can take the ferry over https://peanutislandshuttleboat.com or you can rent a kayak or paddle board https://www.nauticalventures.com/riviera-beach. Check the tide schedule on the shuttle site. It’s best to arrive a half an hour before high tide and when there has not been any previous rain which murks up the water. If you rent a kayak, you can also rent the snorkel gear. Bring heavy duty sun screen! The sun on your back while snorkeling is serious and you won’t feel it til it’s too late. https://youtu.be/rmnXMW9WuFQ https://youtu.be/gqi2gss5Hus Also if you drive over to the Blue Heron bridge which goes over the intracoastal, parking is available at the bridge, You can walk out into the water facing south. Go out a bit and explore the various sunken treasures. It’s pretty cool. https://youtu.be/rlB60vQpW5M Skip to 3:45 in the video to get an idea of what you will see. (Skip to 3:45) SNORKELING TRAIL The Blue Heron Bridge area is internationally recognized by scientists, scuba divers, underwater photographers, and snorkelers for its abundance of unique marine life. Squid, octopus, spotted rays, and starfish are regularly seen. A snorkel trail made of limestone boulders and prefabricated reef modules spans a two-acre area in 6 to 10 feet of water. 600 tons of rock were used to build this artificial reef! Here is the snorkel trail. https://discover.pbcgov.org/parks/PDF/philfostersnorkeltrail.pdf

Beaches! While there are several beaches in the area, this is the one I recommend. It’s a public beach with wide shoreline, recreation activities, free parking, beach chair rentals and several restaurants right across the street often with live music. Such as Two Drunken Goats Cantina. To find this beach, put in Two Drunken Goats address and you’re there. 2509 North Ocean Drive, Singer Island, Florida

Sightseeing

Palm beach island is its own town across the water from downtown West Palm Beach. I don’t recommend the beach itself. It’s small, pretentious and does not offer much. But the island itself is worth a look see. You can bike it or drive your car and check. Out the Multi million dollar mansions, lifestyles of the rich and famous (Rod Stewart, Jeff Green, Donald Trump and many other famous people live here. The architecture of the island is gorgeous, very italianesque with lots of bougainvillea, beautiful manicured lawns and the famous Breakers Hotel! If you are a bike rider, there is an awesome trail on the water on the east side of the north bridge. Flagler Memorial Bridge. Just south of the Palm Beach Yacht club and just North of downtown West Palm. I have used Top Cycle and they were great plus they are right next to an awesome French cafe that I highly recommend. http://topcyclepalmbeach.com http://www.patrickleze.com It’s defiantly worth a visit to the Breakers hotel, especially during the holidays as it’s decked out in splendor. It’s best to Park nearby and Uber over as valet parking is crazy. However if you decide to have dinner there, they will validate your valet slip and waive the fee. See my entry under places to eat for where to eat in this fine hotel. (Hint-seafood bar where the bar overlooks the ocean and is a literal aquarium) HMF on the lower floor is nice for lounge style seating and Uber expensive drinks but still a nice way to spend an evening. Worth Ave. is worth a stroll if you are into window shopping top designers and fine art galleries. The Royal Poinciana Plaza is also worth a visit. There are some great restaurants and looking glass old world pools. They also run a lot of interesting events. Check it out. https://www.theroyalpoincianaplaza.com. I also recommend Sant Ambroeus https://www.santambroeus.com, on Wednesday night jazz night with ladies night combo. They also have a fabulous coffee bar. Please check during Covid if and when jazz night is being offered. Lastly, Amici market is a great place to pick up an incredible deli sandwich or a slice of pizza with toppings galore. It’s a specialty market with interesting items. Check it out. https://www.amicimarket.com

Downtown West Palm has a lot to offer, from good venues, clubs, events, Irish pubs, sports bars and rooftop bars. Just get out, park the car in the city garage (there are 5 and only a dollar per hour and walk it! The east to west streets are in alphabetical order starting with Banyan to the north and heading south to Clematis, Datura, Evernia, Fern, Gardenia and Hibiscus. It’s not too large easily walkable and the north to south streets Flagler on the water, Dixie and Olive. If you continue west you’ll run into Rosemary Square aka City Place which is good for watching a movie or checking out our super cool boutique bowling alley. We are home to several important events, like the Palm Beach boat show, SUNFEST (a four day three different stages music festival) many other concerts and events at out amphitheater and live music every night downtown at the water and clematis free for all! https://www.wpb.org/government/community-events/community-events/clematis-by-night. Just go explore. https://downtownwpb.com. During the holidays, West Palm lights up our holiday tree made of sand sculptures and laser light shows. Different then any holiday tree lighting! Pretty cool.

Food scene

Quaint little village and part of our neighborhood. All of the restaurants are mom and pop, and there are one off unique shops, consignment and thrift stores and art works. https://northwoodvillage.com . I recommend Cafe Centro for Italian fare while listening to Motown sounds live band (call for days and times) https://cafecentrowpb.com. Petanque for a cool vibe casual backyard atmosphere with usually a single member musician, https://www.petanquepb.com. Leo’s Crab Shack for fried seafood, https://www.google.com/amp/s/restaurantguru.com/amp/Leos-crab-shack-West-Palm-Beach. Presto Pizza for quick food to go that’s inexpensive, at 522 25th st. Malakor for a soothing and romantic excellent Thai experience, Malakor.com. Agora Mediterranean is excellent (go when the belly dancers are there on the weekend, http://agorakitchenwpb.com. and Tina’s Grocery for small needs and they even have a decent selection of wine, next to Presto Pizza. There are lots of cool places, like Old Metal Classics where you can get a great quiche while checking out the bikes, https://old-metal-classics.business.site but my absolute favorite is Mestizo Peruvian. A true mom and pop, the husband and wife do it all and it’s excellent! https://mestizoperuvian.com Most all the proprietors live right here in Northwood.

Do Not Miss!!!! USA Today says this is the number one farmers market in the country! It’s one of my favorite things to do. Every Saturday 9-1 from October to mid April. Go early cuz it gets crowded, incredible delights, the best french baked goods, breads, oils, seafood, rare flowers, you name it, it’s fantastic. Live music and a flea market as well. The market is at the base of downtown right at Clematis street and the waterway, continue down Clematis to find unusual one off items. There is even all you can drink mimosas! Parking in downtown West Palm.

While there is street metered parking, you’ll rarely find a spot and the ticket monsters are hungry. I just wouldn’t risk it. You may end up having a ball and have to worry about feeding the meter. Instead the city has 5 parking garages all over downtown and it’s only a dollar an hour! Pay when you leave and don’t stress it. https://www.wpb.org/government/parking-administration/parking-garages

Free Trolly! Bus! Bike!Uber/Lyft

The city has a free trolley system and all routes go through downtown. The closest trolly pick up is in Northwood Village, less than a mile on foot from the property. You can also go to the outlet mall. https://downtownwpb.com/trolley-2/ Also on Broadway right around the corner is the bus stop. The number one bus is the ideal bus to go as far north or south as you like and services all connections elsewhere. Hint: do not take the bus at night. Opt for Uber/Lyft. You can also use the bike I have provided. https://www.palmbeachtpa.org/transit

Trains!

We have two trains and both are accessible right in downtown.the tri-rail, stops in every town going south. You can grab that on 45th st or downtown station. Tri-rail.com. And the new Brightline high speed train will take you to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale for the day. Gobrightline.com

Artwork downtown West Palm!

There is amazing art work all through West Palm’s small downtown, but you need to walk it to see it. Turn a corner, and suddenly you will see a multi floor gigantic mural, turn the corner again, and another. Located more on the south side of Clematis, particularly on or near Fern street. But honestly, it’s everywhere. Don’t miss something special, walk our downtown boardwalk along the intracoastal towards the middle bridge (hint from Clematis street and the water, head south towards the bridge, follow the boardwalk under the bridge, then look to your right and left!
