Don't miss the beautiful views from the GR 36 hiking trail!
A ballade on GR 36 offers beautiful views of Lagrasse and the surrounding area, and on the clear day you can see the Pyrénées mountains about half-way through the hike. Start at the edge of the village near the Route de Carcassone (D3), go up the hill and follow the red & white painted marks. Enjoy the view of Lagrasse on your left while walking through the Cyprus trees and garrigue. Follow the path for about 30 min and then take a left at the intersection and follow the yellow painted marks. About 25 min later you will connect with the paved D41 road and soon after you'll reach the Abbey.

A few tips on clothing and outerwear
All year-round: always be sure to check the weather before you visit. Fall and spring are the rainy seasons, so bring a waterproof jacket or coat. Always be sure to bring comfortable walking or hiking shoes.
Summertime: Be sure to bring at least one sweater and a water repellent jacket or windbreaker as it can get cool in the evenings on the riverfront. In addition to the advice above, be sure to bring a swimsuit! The Orbieu river in Lagrasse is a popular swimming spot. Espadrilles are perfect for the summer. If you don't have any you can usually purchase a pair at the épicerie or Tabac.
