Taj MaCoop has been a major restoration project, a labor of love that three arduous years later at last reflects the owner-builder's vision, a story and a process that she shares on her website that chronicles the journey.

Situated on two acres, the hundred-year old cabin with a farmhouse addition is just about a mile down hill to the heart of Nashville, Indiana and if you don't mind the walk back up, it's a great stroll through a canopy of trees and scenic woods.

The space is cozy and spacious at the same time, with a well-equipped kitchen that is chef-friendly with a gas stove, large fridge and generous spice selection. Freshly ground coffee, tea and cocoa are stocked for your use.

Full bath and shower are located downstairs with a half bath en suite in the master bedroom.

High speed internet wifi connection and office space with printer makes it convenient to catch up with work.

I'm delighted to at last be sharing the home (and paying down the construction debt!) that three years ago only existed in my imagination. On the heels of a major life upheaval, this almost 1400 square foot cabin became mine alone, a prospect that was pretty much sink or swim.

I had played a role in remodeling several homes before, but never as the lead character. Fortunately, this formerly forlorn foreclosure was situated next door to family, at a comfortable distance. Their hot water, clean sheets, Kleenex and home-cooked meals made all the difference in coming out on the other side of the many challenges and unholy surprises!

I've never regretted my few years I spent as a cabinet maker in my 20's, learning how to get along with power tools. As a result, I was able to do most of the finish work myself, as well as build much of the furniture and cabinetry in my home. It is a daunting thing to wield a sledge hammer at a popcorn ceiling for the first time--and even more daunting to realize that the exposed second story foundation would need to be replaced!!--and these are just a couple of the fun discoveries that laid in store.

The formerly Pepto Bismol Pink (!) living room logs are now looking like their original selves, an extensive faux finish project that seemed to never end. All the window treatments are sewed, and the paint buckets put away. It has been a long journey and I hope that my guests are as pleased with the results as I am.
