A private 3 hour tour amongst tall eucalypt woodland on the Fleurieu Peninsula. You will be guided by a passionate ecologist sharing fascinating stories of the bushland and its critters. Hear tales of orchids that trick love-sick wasps, seeds designed to stick to feathers, tiny marsupials that mate ‘til they drop and birds that teach their unhatched chicks a secret song.

Whether it be finding fungi, admiring native orchids or spotting birds, you will see a diversity of interesting flora and fauna no matter when you visit. We might see kangaroos, a koala, echidna, an adorable native swampie or even get a glimpse of one of our rarer marsupials, the yellow-footed antechinus. There is time to pause and bathe in the sounds and scents of the forest. You can also plant a tree to commemorate your visit and contribute to our ongoing revegetation and carbon-offset commitment.

Our standard walk winds through unmade narrow bush tracks with some short steep sections (2 km Grade 3 Bushwalk), however trail length and terrain can be tailored to suit a range of abilities. Families with children are welcome.

Start times can be negotiated. Tours will be cancelled on days of severe weather or a fire danger rating of Extreme or Catastrophic.

All profits go towards local revegetation, wildlife protection and ongoing bush improvement.

I am a qualified (PhD) ecologist with a keen interest in orchid ecology, plant conservation, Indigenous plant use and plant-insect interactions. My husband and cohost, David, is an experienced land manager with a background in marine and national parks and numerous revegetation projects.

We are both passionate about caring for our environment, particularly the beautiful parcel of bushland that we have become the proud custodians of. We love studying, photographing and experiencing the plants and animals in all their diversity and wonder.

We are active members of the Prospect Hill Bushland Group and have organised or participated in numerous workshops and citizen-science projects including seed collection, bird monitoring, pest animals, fungi forays, and surveys for bats, echidnas, frogs and waterbugs.

This is a fabulous experience, Renate is well organised and extremely knowledgeable. She and her husband David, happily shared their expertise about the environment while we were walking. We saw a great variety of native orchids, birdlife, spectacular views and a delicious afternoon tea. We were able to contribute to the revegetation project by planting a tree. We would definitely recommend this experience to anyone interested in the bush, especially native orchids, walking and bird life.

Renate and David are very welcoming and knowledgeable hosts. The planting of a personal tree to mark the occasion of the hike is a beautiful touch. Really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to others who are interested in learning a bit about this beautiful part of the world .

I bought this tour as a gift for my aunt and uncle, here is there review: we had a wonderful experience wandering through the native bushland. We saw lots of 'fun guys', interesting flowers, many native birds, a sleepy koala and a huge echidna. Learnt quite a bit about the local area. Renate and Dave are very passionate about their piece of bushland. Can definitely recommend a visit. June and Brian.

What a fabulous couple of hours in such beautiful surroundings. Renate and Dave were so welcoming. It was great learning so much about fungi and loads of other things. Saw a koala, the biggest echidna I’ve ever seen and lots of beautiful birds, loved the “swampies” too. Was thrilled to be able to plant my own tree on the property, thought this was a brilliant idea. Highly recommended.

If you love nature - this is a great experience. We started with observing and feeding the delightful wrens and watching “Swampy” - the cute swamp rat venture from his burrow. Renate and David are great hosts - very easy to relate to and they are passionate about the plants, birds and animals on their property. With their deep understanding and impressive knowledge of the related ecology, we learnt so much. The indigenous history was also very interesting. We were lucky to see a great range of colourful fungi and a few native orchids. It was also great to do our bit by each planting a tree. Overall, if you want an educational, but fun experience, this is for you. We look forward to returning in spring.

WOW! This is a MUST do experience. Renate and Dave's love of their very special patch of bushland is contagious. They have a gift for story telling and they shared many new and really interesting facts about the flora and fauna on their property. The range of fungi was truly amazing, and walking with experts enabled us to see things that we previously would not have noticed. We highly recommend this tour and we will be returning in spring.
