Cooking with a Costa Rican Family
After booking our experiences, you will arrive at our kitchen where you will be very welcome and where you will share a good time with an authentic Costa Rican family. After introducing ourselves and getting to know each other over a refreshing drink, we will take you on a tour of our organic garden, where you will learn about the different crops and aromatic plants, followed by picking some of the ingredients that we will use for the preparation of our dish. When we return to the kitchen we will prepare a refreshing mojito to proceed to prepare a typical dish with fresh ingredients, produced by us and our neighbors. At the end of the preparation of the dish, we will consume everything prepared in a family atmosphere. If you come with more time than agreed there is a good chance to observe some animals such as frogs, birds and sloth that live in our garden.
Produciendo Café en el Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde
When our visitors arrive at the Sanctuary, the first thing we will do is make a small introduction about our family project, we are guardians of 48 hectares of forest since 1999. During the walk to the plantation, we will talk about the history of coffee in the world and Costa Rica, and then explain on the plantation what permaculture consists of and sustainable farming versus monocultures. Also, learning about specialty coffee and the different ways of processing and finish with a visit to the drying area. On the way back you will have a coffee tasting in three different roasts and methods and each participant will learn how to prepare their own coffee in the proper way. In the end you will learn: how to be a more informed and smart buyer, make the most of the product and value the work behind each cup of coffee. Other things to note We are the only specialty organic coffee plantation in Monteverde. During the year coffee goes through different stages, therefore, depending on the season you will see different processes.

Coffee unites us, and we'll help you understand the market so you can choose better, and why organic farming is so different from what you may think. You'll learn about the realities of farming from real farmers who aren't using chemicals to produce an excellent cup of coffee. We'll spend almost one hour talking about the process, and help you understand coffee and farming with an open mind. We'll see the plants, the roasting, and the brewing. You'll discover how to make a better cup of coffee, how to get what you want from a java cup, and learn about other products made with the coffee fruit. You'll support a family who'll give you a unique and authentic experience. Other things to note Come with hiking boots and long pants. You must drive to get to our farm or take a bus at 9 AM from Atenas.
Finca El Paraiso Farm & Cheese Tour

It is our vision to continue to operate this farm without the use of pesticides or chemical based fertilizers and to maintain a balance of pasturelands and forest. Guests are invited to take a tour of the farm. Come and see the cows up close and try your hand at milking. Take a tour of the garden, where you will find banana trees, the beginnings of a small scale coffee farm, and seasonal fruits and veggies under the care of our family. We also have sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry on the premises that are all a part of the farm operation. MonteVerde is an area with a rich history in dairy production. We invite to try fresh Costa Rican cheese. You can enjoy an authentic meal featuring the freshly made cheese, hand made tortillas, along with other locally sourced and seasonably available items. After that, we'll move up to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve to be at a different elevation—about 5,000 feet above sea level—where we'll see much more interesting birds, including the resplendent quetzal, guans, barbets, three-wattled bellbirds, tinamous, and so many others. Night Walking Tour & Special Dinner
Immerse yourself in the culture and history of the city. Explore San Jose by Night, complete with local markets, cultural icons, and a tasty dinner with wine! Starting with the Central Market, which, in our opinion, is the only way to learn about the city’s food (aside from eating it, which we’ll get to). Stroll the market with your local guide and get to know the secrets, uses of the roots, herbs, and fruit common in local cuisines, including ingredients that will play a role in your authentic Costa Rican dinner later. The locals say that you can get anything you need at the Central Market, even love potions for attracting a boyfriend or girlfriend. After the market, we’ll make our way down Central Avenue, learning about the city’s history and anecdotes, as well as visiting one of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in San Jose, the National Theatre. From there, our appreciation for San Jose’s historical architecture continues, with a walk through Morazán Park and we will visit the Coffee House to make el Morenito, one delicious cocktail and try Chiliguaro. We’ll continue to charm Barrio Amon, one the oldest neighborhoods we’ll be spending the rest of the evening at a favorite restaurant that specializes in wine and gourmet food. This cozy establishment offers the best in Costa Rican cuisine a unique space that offers art, culture, history as well as fine dining.

Located just a short distance from the city of San José, this is one of the best ways to experience the natural surroundings of the country without having to travel too far.

We have a private parking lot at our office in Curubande where you can leave your car safe while we do the hike. From Curubande we will take a 4WD for 1 km that will take us to the entrance of the waterfall trail and here is where the hike begins. The waterfall is well hidden away on the outskirts of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano . The trail is 1.3 Miles (2 Kilometers) singletrack so together it is 4 km. There are some climbing to do in elevation and some caves to go across. Later to reach the waterfall we have to swim 25 meters through a beautiful turquoise river canyon. We will explore the hidden ecosystem resting inside the campus of the first public university in the country. You'll discover some amazing birdwatching, with several dozens of different bird species in the area and then we'll look for the small population of sloths living free on the campus' gardens. Many times we will try some wild berries and smell all sorts of barks and flowers. We'll be talking about art, history, indigenous culture, and most of all, nature. This is a full senses experience so you will get to see, touch, smell, taste, and listen to nature thriving amidst our country's biggest city. *** From May to November we recommend booking on the morning slot due to rainy afternoons, however, the afternoons are also great DISCLAIMER: This is not a Recue Center or Sloth Sactuary Tour. You will not be able to touch them, if found, the sloths will be seen in their natural habitat, which means most of the times they will be sleeping on thee trees. Still our experience is your best option at San Jose if you're a true nature lover.
